Photos from the Library of Congress Collection

The HABS seeks to "document achievements in architecture, engineering, and design in the United States and its territories through a comprehensive range of building types and engineering technologies including examples as diverse as the Pueblo of Acoma, houses, windmills, one-room schools and the Golden Gate Bridge".

Among the 350,000 HABS documents are high resolution photos made around 1936 by Walter Stewart of 46 houses in New Castle. Most of the buildings in New Castle itself looked in 1936 much as they do today with some changes in stucco, trees, ivy and automobiles. However outside of town buildings have been lost or changed beyond recognition.
